Studying in England (Outside London) for Nepali Students: Universities, Costs and Visa Money
Most Nepali students in the UK study in England. Outside London you show less money for the visa, a bachelor’s takes three years, and you can choose from cities as different as Manchester, Coventry, Leeds and Sheffield.
Is England a Good Choice for Nepali Students?
England outside London has 94 universities in HOA’s guides, including 15 Russell Group members such as Oxford, Cambridge and Manchester. For applications from 30 November 2026 you show £1,203 a month of living costs (£10,827 for nine months) plus unpaid tuition. A bachelor’s takes three years and a taught master’s one year.
For most students, yes: it has the widest choice of courses and cities, and lower living costs than London. The right university depends on your grades, English and budget, so use the table below to compare published fees, then check each university’s own page.

Most Russell Group universities ask for IELTS or an equivalent test rather than an MOI letter, and a higher bachelor’s grade, often a first or upper second equivalent. HOA has placed students across all 24 Russell Group universities, but Oxford and Cambridge, like LSE, do not work through agents, so you apply to them directly.

Cities Nepali Students Choose
- Manchester: four universities, a large Nepali student community and a wide jobs market.
- Birmingham: five universities in HOA’s guides, including Aston and Birmingham City University.

- Leeds: the University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett and Leeds Trinity.
- Sheffield and Nottingham: two universities each and lower living costs in HOA’s estimates.
How Much Money You Show for the Visa
You show the tuition you still owe for the first year plus living costs for up to nine months. For a university outside London: £1,203 a month (£10,827, about NPR 21.1 lakhs) for applications from 30 November 2026, or £1,171 a month (£10,539) before then. The money must stay in the account for 28 days in a row, ending no more than 31 days before you apply.
Worked example. A one-year master’s with £17,000 tuition and a £3,000 deposit paid: £14,000 still owed + £10,827 living costs = £24,827 (about NPR 48.4 lakhs) held for 28 days. Add the £558 visa fee and about £1,164 health surcharge, paid when you apply.

Master’s: directly to each university. Bachelor’s: through UCAS, by 18:00 UK time on 13 January 2027 for most September 2027 courses.
Accept and get your CAS
Meet the conditions, pay any deposit and check the CAS details.
Prepare the visa file
NOC, TB test, 28-day funds, then apply online and give biometrics in Kathmandu.

England has the most universities and the widest range of courses, and its bachelor’s degrees take three years against four for a Scottish Honours degree.
Manchester, Birmingham, Coventry, Leeds, Sheffield and Nottingham all have Nepali student communities and lower living costs than London.
For a bachelor’s, NEB +2 at around 60% or more for direct entry, or a foundation year below that. For a master’s, a bachelor’s at around 50 to 55% or more for most universities, and higher for Russell Group courses.
