UK customs rules on food from Nepal: Do not bring fresh meat, eggs, fresh dairy, or fresh vegetables — these are banned. Packaged/dried spices, dried lentils (dal), packaged tea, and sealed processed food are generally allowed in small personal quantities. Check current UK Border Force rules before packing food items.
Pre-Departure FAQ for Nepali Students
Essential documents for UK entry: Passport linked to your eVisa, eVisa (UKVI account), CAS letter, unconditional offer letter, accommodation booking, 28-day bank statements, IELTS/PTE certificate (if used), academic transcripts. UK Border Force may ask to see any of these. Keep originals in hand luggage, never checked baggage.
New students get an eVisa, not a BRP card. The eVisa is an online record of your immigration status in your UKVI account. Before you fly, sign in, check your details and link the passport you will travel on. In the UK you prove your right to study, work or rent with a share code.
First week priority order: (1) Check your eVisa in your UKVI account. (2) University enrolment — get student ID. (3) UK SIM card — Smarty (£10/mo) at Argos or supermarkets. (4) Open bank account — Monzo app (10 min setup, no credit check, works immediately). (5) Apply for NI number at gov.uk. (6) Register with NHS GP. (7) Start job search on Indeed.co.uk.

What should I pack for the UK from Nepal?
Documents: passport linked to your eVisa, CAS, offer letter, bank statements, TB certificate and accommodation details. Electronics: a UK plug adaptor (Type G, three pins), laptop and phone. Clothes: a waterproof jacket and warm layers, since UK winters are often close to freezing. Medicines: any prescription medicines with a doctor's letter, in a quantity for personal use. Food: Nepali ingredients are sold in South Asian shops in most UK cities.
Does House of Admissions charge students for this?
No. HOA's guidance is free to students at every stage: profile assessment, university applications, SOP review, scholarship matching and visa file preparation. Partner universities pay HOA a commission when a student enrols. You pay only official third-party costs, such as the £558 visa fee, the Immigration Health Surcharge, the TB test and the NPR 2,000 NOC.
Is House of Admissions certified or licensed by UKVI?
No, and no education agent is. UKVI licenses UK institutions as student sponsors; it does not certify, approve or license agents. HOA follows UKVI-compliant guidance and AQF-aligned practice, and all 20+ HOA counsellors hold the British Council's UK counsellor certification.
How much cash should I carry from Nepal?
Enough for the first two to four weeks, since a UK bank account can take time to open. Nepal Rastra Bank limits how much foreign currency travellers can take out, so check the current allowance and carry the rest on a card or arrange a transfer.
Do I need to register with the police when I arrive in the UK?
No. The police registration requirement ended on 4 August 2022. What you do need is to check your eVisa in your UKVI account, keep your passport linked to it, and enrol with your university.
