Expert Summary
Nepali students require 60-80% in +2 (or a Bachelor's degree), an IELTS score of 6.0-6.5 (or MOI/English waivers), and must show approximately NPR 33 Lakhs in a bank account for 28 days to secure a UK Student Visa. House of Admissions (HOA) provides 100% free guidance through the entire process.
Getting Started
The process of studying in the UK from Nepal involves six key stages. At House of Admissions, we manage this entire pipeline for you at zero cost.
- Choose your course and university — shortlist 3–6 based on rankings, fees, location, and your grades.
- Check entry requirements — most undergraduate courses need 60–80%+ in +2; Master's need 55–65%+ in your Bachelor's.
- Prepare your English proof — IELTS 6.0–6.5, or Grade 12 English 60%+ / MOI letter as alternatives.
- Apply — via UCAS for undergraduate; direct to universities for postgraduate.
- Get your CAS — Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies, issued by the university after you accept and pay your deposit.
- Apply for UK Student Visa — show 28 days' bank statements with funds covering tuition + £9,207. Visa typically takes 3 weeks.
- Shorter degrees save money: Bachelor's are 3 years (vs 4 in USA/Aus); Master's are just 1 year — saving you a full year of tuition and living costs.
- Post-study work rights: The Graduate Route Visa gives you 2 years (3 for PhD) of unrestricted work — no job offer needed.
- High Visa Success Rate: The UK Student Visa process from Nepal is highly structured. If your documents are correct, refusal is rare (HOA has a 99% success rate).
Admissions & Requirements
Bachelor's (Undergraduate): +2 / NEB Grade 12 — 60–80% overall. If your grades are between 50-55%, you can enter via a 1-year Foundation course.
Master's (Postgraduate): Bachelor's degree from a recognized Nepali university with 55–75% (2:2 to 2:1 equivalent). Some MBA programs require 2+ years of managerial work experience.
No, gap years are well accepted by UK universities, provided you can account for the time productively. Time spent preparing for IELTS, gaining work experience, or volunteering is perfectly acceptable.
You must briefly explain this gap positively in your Personal Statement. For UK Student Visas, UKVI does not penalize gap years as long as you can prove you are a genuine student.
Costs & Finances
| Expense | Per Year (£) | Per Year (NPR @ 172) |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition (Affordable Unis) | £9,500–£13,000 | NPR 16–22 lakhs |
| Tuition (Mid-Tier Unis) | £14,000–£20,000 | NPR 24–34 lakhs |
| Living costs (Outside London) | £8,000–£12,000 | NPR 14–21 lakhs |
Net family contribution: Because international students can work part-time, you can offset your living costs. The typical net cost to your family per year is roughly £10,000–£12,000 (NPR 17–21 lakhs).
UKVI enforces the strict 28-Day Rule. You must show bank statements for 28 consecutive days proving you hold:
- Year 1 tuition fees (or the remaining balance after your deposit)
- Living costs: £1,023 × 9 months = £9,207 (if studying outside London).
Example: If your tuition is £12,000, you must show £12,000 + £9,207 = £21,207 minimum (˜ NPR 36.5 lakhs).
Visas & Settlement
Yes. The UK offers a clear, legal pathway for international graduates to remain permanently. Here is the standard progression timeline:
- Student Visa (During your 1-3 year degree)
- Graduate Route Visa (2 years of unrestricted work to find an employer)
- Skilled Worker Visa (Requires a sponsored job paying £38,700+/year)
- ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) (Apply after 5 continuous years on the Skilled Worker Visa)
The vast majority of refusals are due to preventable errors:
- Financial Errors: The bank balance dropped below the exact required threshold for even a single day during the 28-day window.
- Sudden Deposits: UKVI questioned the origin of a massive lump sum deposited just before the 28 days started.
- Document Errors: Translations were not officially certified, or the TB test was from a non-approved clinic.
Note: House of Admissions conducts a rigorous pre-submission audit on all files, resulting in our 99% success rate.

Yes! There are two official, UKVI-recognized pathways to bypass the IELTS exam:
Route 1 (Bachelor's applicants): Scoring 60%+ in NEB Grade 12 English is accepted by many of our partner universities.
Route 2 (Master's applicants): An official MOI (Medium of Instruction) Letter from your Bachelor's institution confirming all teaching was conducted in English.
