The individual band requirement is crucial — a 6.0 overall with one band at 5.0 is usually rejected. HOA verifies exact requirements for each university on your shortlist.
Yes — 25+ UK universities accept an MOI (Medium of Instruction) letter instead of IELTS. Yes — PTE Academic is accepted by virtually all UK universities as a direct IELTS alternative. Equivalences: PTE 59 = IELTS 6.0. PTE 62 = IELTS 6.5. PTE 65 = IELTS 7.0. PTE is available in Kathmandu and is computer-based with AI scoring (no human examiner). Many Nepali students find PTE speaking easier than IELTS because there is no examiner pressure — you speak to a microphone and your response is scored by AI.
IELTS results are valid for 2 years from the test date. Your certificate must be within 2 years of your course start date for university admission. For the UK Student Visa, UKVI accepts “Secure English Language Tests” (SELT) — this is a separate, approved test (IELTS for UKVI, Pearson PTE for UKVI) that must be within 2 years of your visa application date. Academic IELTS and IELTS for UKVI are different tests. HOA clarifies which test you need for which purpose.
Both, but they are different tests. For university admission: Academic IELTS (or PTE Academic, MOI letter at eligible universities). For UK Student Visa: SELT (Secure English Language Test) — this is typically “IELTS for UKVI” or “PTE Academic UKVI”. However, if your university does not require an English test (MOI route), you may still need an English test for the visa. HOA advises whether your profile requires a test for the visa, and which test is most appropriate.
