How Part 2 Works
In Part 2 (the Long Turn), you receive a task card with a topic and bullet points. You have 1 minute to prepare and must speak for 1–2 minutes. The examiner will then ask 1–2 follow-up questions.
Common mistakes: speaking for less than 1 minute, ignoring the bullet points, going off-topic.
Most Common Cue Card Topics
- Describe a person who has influenced you
- Describe a place you have visited that impressed you
- Describe an object that is important to you
- Describe a skill you recently learned
- Describe a memorable event in your life
- Describe a book, film, or piece of music you enjoy
Preparation Strategy for Nepali Students
Rather than memorising answers for every possible topic, learn to adapt a few strong narrative frameworks:
- People topics: who → relationship → what they did → impact on you
- Place topics: where → when you visited → what you saw/did → why it was memorable
- Object topics: what it is → how you got it → how you use it → why it matters
Practice speaking for exactly 2 minutes using a timer. Record yourself and identify filler words (um, ah, basically) — replace them with pauses or linking phrases.
