IELTS — Accepted Almost Everywhere
IELTS is accepted by virtually every UK university and by UKVI for student visa purposes. It is the safest choice if you are unsure about which test your target university accepts. The face-to-face speaking component (with a human examiner) can be an advantage for students who communicate better in person than on a computer.
PTE Academic — The Fast Alternative
PTE is gaining popularity among Nepali students because:
- Results are available in 24–48 hours (much faster than IELTS)
- It is entirely computer-based, which some students find more consistent than human examiners
- It is also accepted by UKVI for student visa purposes
- It is slightly cheaper than IELTS in Nepal
The main risk is that a small number of UK universities don't accept PTE, particularly for some specialist programmes. Always verify before booking.
Our Recommendation for Nepali Students
If you have strong computer skills and want fast results: PTE Academic. If you want the widest acceptance and prefer speaking to a human: IELTS Academic. TOEFL is a solid option but is less common in Nepal and slightly harder to prepare for locally.
