Every UK Interview Type — Covered

HOA's AI tool and counsellors are trained across all major UK interview formats that Nepali students face.

Postgraduate Programme Interviews

Standard 20–30 minute video or in-person interviews for MSc, MA, and MEng programmes. Focus on academic motivation, research background, and career goals.

Standard Difficulty

Chevening Scholarship Interview

30–45 minute British Council panel interview. Focus areas: leadership, networking ability, career plan, and why UK — not another country. HOA has produced 50+ Chevening scholars from Nepal.

High Difficulty

Commonwealth Scholarship Interview

Panel interview testing development impact, academic excellence, and leadership. Expect 45-60 minutes of probing questions on your research plan and contribution to Nepal's development.

High Difficulty

NHS / Nursing Interviews

Values-based interview assessing care, compassion, and competence. Questions follow the NHS Values Framework. HOA has specialist preparation for Nepali nurses targeting NHS Band 5 roles.

MBA Programme Interviews

Case-based and competency interviews. Common at ranked business schools including Warwick, Edinburgh, Manchester. Expect questions on leadership, business acumen, and team experience.

How to Prepare for a UK University Interview

Follow these six steps in order. Students who complete all six steps consistently perform better in both scholarship and programme interviews.

1

Confirm whether your course needs an interview

Not all programmes require interviews. Contact HOA for a free check — we confirm this in your first consultation. This saves weeks of unnecessary preparation. Book free consultation →

2

Re-read your SOP or personal statement

Every interview question flows from what you wrote. Re-read your Statement of Purpose. Be ready to expand on any claim with specific examples, dates, and results.

3

Run 10+ AI practice sessions

Use HOA's unlimited AI tool to practice answering the most common questions. Focus on structure: Situation → Action → Result. Review your scores after each session and iterate.

4

Research your subject area

UK interviewers expect current-affairs awareness in your field. Read BBC, The Guardian, and relevant academic journals. For healthcare courses, know NHS priorities and staffing challenges.

5

Book your free HOA 1-on-1 mock session

After AI practice, test yourself with a live mock. HOA counsellors simulate real panel conditions and provide written feedback. Available at our Kathmandu and Pokhara offices or online.

6

Prepare 5 questions to ask the panel

Always end an interview with thoughtful questions about the programme, research, career support, or alumni outcomes. This signals genuine interest — critical for competitive scholarships and courses.

Frequently Asked Questions — UK Mock Interviews

No — most standard UK postgraduate applications do not require interviews. However, competitive programmes (Oxbridge, medicine, dentistry, law), all scholarship interviews (Chevening, Commonwealth, GREAT), NHS and healthcare programmes, and many MBA programmes do require them. HOA confirms your specific requirement during your free consultation.

Sessions are unlimited, available 24/7, with no appointment needed. Formats covered include postgraduate, Chevening, Commonwealth, MBA, nursing, and Oxbridge-style interviews. Contact HOA via WhatsApp to get access.
The most frequent questions include: Why this university? Why this course? What are your long-term career goals? Describe your undergraduate research or work experience. What is a current challenge in your field? Why study in the UK rather than another country? How will this degree benefit Nepal when you return? Describe a time you showed leadership. HOA's AI tool covers these and 100+ more.
Begin as soon as you receive your invitation. For most university programme interviews, two to three weeks of daily AI practice plus one live HOA mock session is sufficient. For Chevening or Commonwealth scholarship interviews, begin four to six weeks in advance — these panels select fewer than 3% of applicants.
The Chevening interview is a structured 30–45 minute panel with two or three British Council assessors. Questions focus on leadership, networking, career plans, and specific reasons for your chosen course and UK university. It is highly competitive. HOA has produced 50+ Chevening scholars from Nepal and offers dedicated Chevening preparation through both AI sessions and live 1-on-1 coaching. See our Chevening scholarship guide for full details.
Yes. HOA offers mock interview sessions at both our Kathmandu office (Putalisadak 28, near Shankardev Campus) and our Pokhara office (3rd Floor, Trade Mall, Chipledhunga, Pokhara-8). Online sessions via WhatsApp video or Zoom are also available at no cost. Contact us on +977-9802373936 to book your free session.
UK universities expect business casual to business formal attire. For in-person interviews: formal trousers or skirt, a collared shirt or blouse, and clean footwear. For online interviews: professional attire on the upper body at minimum, with a clean and well-lit background. HOA mock sessions simulate real interview conditions including environment and dress guidance.

Why Nepali Students Choose the UK for Higher Education — and HOA for Guidance

The United Kingdom is a popular higher-education destination for Nepali students. A UK bachelor’s degree typically takes three years and a taught master’s one year, which can reduce the total years of study compared with four-year systems elsewhere. Several UK universities — including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London and UCL — rank in the global top tier, and more than 40 UK institutions appear in the QS World University Rankings top 200 (QS World University Rankings). Tuition varies by course and university and is listed on each university page; House of Admissions matches each student to programmes that fit their budget and academic profile.

The UK Student Visa, governed by Appendix Student of the UK Immigration Rules, permits up to 20 hours of paid work per week during term time and full-time work during vacations (UK Home Office, gov.uk/student-visa), helping students offset living costs. The required 28-day maintenance balance is £10,539 for study outside London (≈ NPR 20.5 lakhs at NPR 195/£1) or £13,761 for London (≈ NPR 26.8 lakhs), per UK Home Office guidance. House of Admissions prepares complete visa files, with a reported 99% approval rate across applications it has supported (self-reported).

Living costs vary by city. Per HESA and UCAS estimates, students in cities such as Birmingham, Manchester and Loughborough typically budget around NPR 14–22 lakhs per year, compared with NPR 25 lakhs or more in London. Nepali graduates who studied in English at Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University, Kathmandu University or Purbanchal University can apply to 25+ UK universities via a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter instead of IELTS — saving up to NPR 35,000 in examination and preparation costs and 2–3 months of preparation, where the chosen university accepts MOI.

After graduation, the Graduate Route grants unrestricted work with no job offer or sponsor required (UK Home Office, gov.uk/graduate-visa). Its length depends on when the Graduate Route application is filed, not on the course dates: 18 months for applications filed on or after 1 January 2027, and 2 years only for those filed on or before 31 December 2026 (PhD graduates keep 3 years either way). Because a student beginning a UK course now will file well after that cutoff, the 18-month figure is the realistic planning number. Graduate Route time does not count toward the standard 5-year Skilled Worker settlement clock; the usual path is Graduate Route → switch to the Skilled Worker visa at the £38,700 salary threshold → Indefinite Leave to Remain after five qualifying years on the Skilled Worker route.

House of Admissions has secured £2M+ in scholarships for Nepali students since 2016 (self-reported), including 50+ Chevening placements (funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office), GREAT Scholarships (£10,000 partial awards), Commonwealth Scholarships (fully funded), and university merit awards of £2,000–£10,000+. Scholarship matching is included in HOA’s free service. Schools, colleges and organisations in Nepal can offer HOA’s UK guidance to their communities through a free partnership arrangement.
