NMC Registration Process

How to Register with the NMC as a Nepali Nurse — 4 Steps

NMC registration is mandatory to work as a clinical nurse in the UK NHS. This is separate from your university degree — you can process NMC registration concurrently with your studies. HOA guides all nursing students through this process.

English Language — IELTS or OET

IELTS Academic 7.0 in Reading, Listening, Speaking and 6.5 in Writing. OR OET Grade B in all components. No MOI exemption for NMC registration — IELTS/OET is mandatory regardless of previous English medium study. This is separate from university admission English requirements.

CBT — Computer Based Test

A theoretical multiple-choice exam testing nursing knowledge across nine clinical domains. Administered by Pearson VUE. Can be taken in Nepal before departure. Pass mark: approximately 67%. HOA guides students on CBT preparation resources and test centre booking.

OSCE — Objective Structured Clinical Examination

A practical clinical examination taken at an NMC-approved UK test centre. Assesses 10 clinical stations including communication, clinical assessment, medication administration, and basic life support. Can only be taken in the UK. Most students take OSCE during their first year of clinical placement.

Full NMC Registration — NHS Band 5

Once CBT + OSCE are passed, you receive your NMC PIN number. You are then a Registered Nurse in the UK. NHS Band 5 starting salary: £28,400–£34,500/year (2026). London HCAS supplement applies.
