The Genuine Student Requirement is the current UK Home Office test used to assess every Student Route visa application, replacing the older 'genuine intent' wording. What Caseworkers Actually Assess
- Academic progression — does this course logically follow your previous qualifications?
- Course and institution choice — is there a clear reason for choosing this specific university and subject?
- Financial credibility — is your financial evidence consistent and plausible for your background?
- Immigration history — any previous UK visa refusals, overstays, or breaches
- Personal circumstances — ties to Nepal such as family, property, or a job offer that support your intention to return or move on lawfully
Common Red Flags That Trigger Refusal
Caseworkers are trained to flag applications where the course level is significantly below the applicant's existing qualifications with no clear explanation, where the chosen subject has no logical connection to prior study or career plans, or where financial evidence shows sudden unexplained deposits. None of these are automatic refusals on their own, but each weakens the overall picture a caseworker forms of your application.
How to Present a Strong Genuine Student Case
Be consistent across every document: your personal statement, your CAS, and your visa application should all tell the same coherent academic and career story. If your course is a change of direction from your first degree, briefly explain why in your personal statement. Keep financial evidence simple and traceable, and be ready to answer questions about your course and university confidently if an interview is requested.
