Post-Study Work
The UK's Graduate Route (2 years, or 18 months for applications from 1 January 2027; 3 for PhD) is more generous and flexible than the USA's 1-year OPT (though STEM fields get 3 years). For Nepali students who want to build UK work experience, the Graduate Route provides more time.
Our Recommendation
For most Nepali students, the UK is the better choice due to: shorter (and therefore cheaper) degree durations, simpler visa process, established Nepali communities, and post-study work rights of 18 months for Graduate Route applications filed on or after 1 January 2027. The USA may be preferable for students targeting top Ivy League institutions, specific STEM research, or the US job market.
