The Masters Application Process in the UK
Unlike undergraduate applications (which go through UCAS), most UK master's applications are made directly to the university through the institution's own online portal. There is no central body like UCAS for postgraduate admissions.
Step-by-Step Application Guide
- Research and shortlist: identify 5–8 universities offering your target course
- Check entry requirements: academic qualifications, IELTS score, any prerequisite subjects
- Prepare documents: transcripts, degree certificates, CV, personal statement, references
- Apply online: through each university's portal (most are free to apply; some charge £20–50)
- Receive conditional offer: accept and pay deposit to secure your place
- Receive unconditional offer: once you have met all conditions
- Receive CAS: from your university (approximately 6–8 weeks before course start)
- Apply for student visa
