NEB +2 to UK University — What Your Grade 12 Results Actually Get You
A Nepali +2 is accepted by UK universities from every stream. What differs is whether you enter the degree directly or through a foundation year, and that turns on your grades.
By Rahul Chhetri, Director, House of Admissions · Updated 20 Oct 2026
UK universities assess NEB Grade 12 results with reference to the UK ENIC framework, but each university sets its own threshold. Broadly, stronger NEB results support direct entry to a three-year bachelor’s, and lower results route through a foundation year, which adds a year and leads into the same degree. All NEB streams are accepted.
This page explains how NEB results are read and why offers differ. For the grade-by-grade table see the UK bachelor’s page; for degree-level equivalency see TU GPA equivalency.

How Do UK Universities Read an NEB Transcript?
They compare it against their own published entry criteria for Nepal, informed by UK ENIC comparability advice. What they are establishing is whether your Grade 12 result is equivalent to the A-level standard they require — and because A-level offers vary enormously between universities, so do the NEB results they will accept.
This is why two students with identical transcripts get different answers. It is not inconsistency; it is different institutions with different entry standards.
Direct Entry or Foundation Year?
| Route | Who it suits | Length | Cost effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct entry | Stronger NEB results in relevant subjects | 3 years | Standard |
| Foundation year | Lower results, or a stream change | 4 years total | One extra year of tuition and living costs |
It adds a full year of tuition, a year of living costs, and a year of maintenance funds to evidence — realistically NPR 40 lakhs or more. It is a legitimate and often excellent route, particularly for a stream change. But it should be a decision, not something you accept because it was the first offer.
Does Your Stream Limit You?
All NEB streams are accepted, but subject relevance matters for specific degrees. A management stream student will not walk into an engineering degree, and a humanities student will not enter computer science directly. A foundation year is the standard bridge where your stream and your intended degree do not match.
How and When Do You Apply?
- Through UCAS for the main undergraduate cycle, with a deadline in late January for the following September.
- Check each university’s Nepal country page for its actual NEB threshold before applying — this is the only figure that binds them.
- Apply to a spread, not five universities at the same standard.
- Sort your English evidence early. Over 25 UK universities accept a Medium of Instruction letter, saving up to NPR 35,000; Russell Group generally still require IELTS.

Yes, from all streams — science, management, humanities and education. What differs is whether your results support direct entry to a three-year bachelor’s or a foundation year route into the same degree.
It depends entirely on the university — each publishes its own threshold for Nepal, informed by UK ENIC comparability advice. Check the specific university’s Nepal country page rather than any general table. Indicative bands by university tier.
A preparatory year before the three-year degree, leading into the same qualification. It suits lower NEB results or a change of stream. It adds a full year of tuition, living costs and maintenance funds — realistically NPR 40 lakhs or more.
Not usually by direct entry. Subject relevance matters for specialist degrees. A foundation year is the standard bridge where your NEB stream and your intended degree do not match.
Because they have different entry standards, just as they have different A-level offers. It is not inconsistency — it is different institutions setting different thresholds.
Through UCAS, with a deadline in late January for entry the following September. Start earlier than that: your English evidence, transcripts and NOC all take time.
