Just Finished +2 in Nepal?
Study in UK Without IELTS — 2026 Complete Guide
Your NEB +2 certificate is a valid UK university entry qualification. If your school taught in English, you do not need IELTS or PTE. HOA gets you a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter, applies to Green-band UK universities, and handles your visa — all completely free.
IELTS vs MOI Letter — What Every +2 Nepal Student Must Know
If your school or college taught lessons in English, you may never need to sit IELTS. Here is exactly what each route involves and which one is right for you.
IELTS / PTE Route
- up to NPR 35,000 exam registration fee
- 2–3 months preparation time minimum
- Risk of failing and re-sitting (additional cost)
- Score valid for only 2 years
- Coaching class costs: NPR 15,000–50,000+
- Required for: non-English medium schools
MOI Letter Route
- NPR 0 — completely free
- No exam, no preparation time
- HOA obtains the letter for you — free
- No expiry — valid while your previous degree is valid
- Saves 2–3 months — earlier UK application
- Required: English-medium school under TU, KU, PU, or Purbanchal
Who qualifies for MOI? If you completed NEB +2 at a school or college affiliated to Tribhuvan University (TU), Kathmandu University (KU), Pokhara University (PU), or Purbanchal University where the medium of instruction was English — you qualify. HOA checks your eligibility free in the first consultation. Most English-medium schools in Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, and major cities qualify. Full MOI guide →
What Do Your NEB +2 Grades Mean for UK University Entry?
UK universities translate NEB grades differently from other systems. Here is the exact equivalency HOA uses when shortlisting universities for +2 Nepal students.
| NEB Grade | Percentage | UK Equivalent | UK University Options | HOA Assessment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A+ (Distinction) | 90%+ | A*–A (A-Level) | Russell Group — Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester | Direct Year 1 + strong merit scholarship |
| A | 80–89% | A–B (A-Level) | Russell Group & Red Brick universities | Direct Year 1 + good scholarship prospects |
| B+ | 65–79% | B–C (A-Level) | Most HOA partner universities — direct entry | Direct Year 1 or Foundation — HOA recommends |
| B | 45–64% | D (A-Level) / Pass | Foundation Year programmes at HOA partners | Foundation Year pathway — guaranteed degree progression |
| C or below | Below 45% | Below pass | Pathway / Foundation programmes | HOA identifies specialist pathway programmes — contact us |
Grade B in one subject, A in another? UK universities often take the best grades across subjects relevant to your chosen degree. A PCM student with Grade A in Maths and Grade B in Physics and Chemistry can still access Engineering degrees at HOA partner universities. HOA profiles individual grade combinations to find the strongest match — free in the first consultation.

Planning your UK application from Nepal
Whatever route you take, four things decide whether a UK application succeeds from Nepal, and none of them is your grades alone. English evidence: over 25 UK universities accept a Medium of Instruction letter from Tribhuvan, Kathmandu, Pokhara or Purbanchal instead of IELTS, saving up to NPR 35,000 — though Russell Group universities generally still require IELTS, and NMC nursing registration always does. Money: you must hold GBP 10,539 outside London or GBP 13,761 for London for 28 consecutive days, at any Nepal Rastra Bank-regulated Class A commercial bank; UKVI publishes no approved-bank list for Nepal, so all 20 qualify. Paperwork: the NOC from MoEST is mandatory for every Nepali student going abroad and must be issued before any overseas tuition transfer. Afterwards: the Graduate Route gives 18 months of unrestricted work for applications filed on or after 1 January 2027, or 2 years if filed on or before 31 December 2026, with 3 years for PhD graduates.
House of Admissions guides all of it at no cost to students — we are paid a referral commission by partner universities when a student enrols, never by the student. To be precise about compliance: HOA follows UKVI-compliant guidance and AQF-aligned practice, holds no UKVI certification and no AQF registration (neither exists for education agents), and all 20+ counsellors individually hold the British Council’s UK Agent and Counsellor Training Certification Award.
