Is a UK MBA Worth It for a Nepali Student? An Honest Assessment
The MBA is the most expensive master’s most Nepali students consider, and the one where the answer is most often "not yet".
By Rahul Chhetri, Director, House of Admissions · Updated 20 Oct 2026
A UK MBA requires two to three years of professional experience and costs £20,000–£40,000 in tuition alone — roughly NPR 39–78 lakhs. If you have just graduated, an MSc Management is the appropriate choice and an MBA is not. If you have five years of real management responsibility, the calculation changes completely.
This page is the decision guide: who it suits, what it pays, and the honest risk. For the university list, entry requirements by Nepali qualification and the full cost breakdown, see the course page. For MBA versus MSc options and accreditation, see the business and MBA subject guide.
- Who MBA suits
- Any bachelor’s plus 2–3 years of work experience; 5+ years can offset a weaker transcript
- Typical entry salary in the UK
- Highly variable — depends entirely on pre-MBA role and sector
- Against the £41,700 threshold
- Depends entirely on the role you move into, not the degree
- One-year cost of the visa itself
- £558 visa fee + £1,164 IHS = £1,722
- Our verdict on MBA
- Only with real experience. A recent graduate should choose MSc Management
When Is an MBA the Right Choice?
When you already manage people or budgets and want to move up, not when you want to start. ' An MBA is a mid-career accelerator. Reputable schools require two to three years of experience precisely because the teaching method depends on students having something to contribute.
Does the Cost Make Sense Against Nepali Salaries?
Tuition of £20,000–£40,000 is NPR 39–78 lakhs before living costs, visa fee and IHS. Run the return calculation honestly. If you intend to return to Nepal, ask what an MBA adds to your earnings there over five years. If you intend to stay in the UK, ask whether your target role clears the £41,700 threshold and sponsors.
A programme admitting recent graduates to an "MBA" is not delivering what the qualification means, and employers know the difference. If a school does not ask about your work experience, that tells you something about the cohort you will be joining and the network you will leave with.
What Should You Do Instead If You Are a Recent Graduate?
An MSc Management or MSc International Business is designed for you, costs substantially less, and does not pretend to be something it is not. Work for three or four years, then reconsider the MBA when it will actually do something.

Not inherently. The Skilled Worker route depends on a sponsored job offer meeting the £41,700 threshold. An MBA can help you reach senior roles that clear it, but it does not confer any visa advantage by itself.
