Many UK accounting master’s carry ACCA and CIMA exemptions, but accreditation is granted programme by programme, not university by university. A well-accredited MSc can exempt several Applied Skills papers; a similarly named course elsewhere exempts none. The exemption schedule is the single biggest difference in long-term value between two otherwise comparable offers.

ACCA and a UK Accounting Master’s from Nepal — How the Exemptions Actually Work

Nepal has a large ACCA and CA pipeline, and the UK is where those qualifications originate. Used properly, a master’s and a professional qualification advance together.

Who Accounting & ACCA suits
BBS, BBA, BCom directly; CA-inter and part-qualified ACCA strengthen the application considerably
Typical entry salary in the UK
£26,000–£34,000 at entry, rising with qualification
Against the £41,700 threshold
Below it at entry, cleared within two to four years with exams
One-year cost of the visa itself
£558 visa fee + £1,164 IHS = £1,722
Our verdict on Accounting & ACCA
Strong for a commerce background — but choose on exemptions, not ranking

Check the Exemption Schedule Before You Accept

Two identical-sounding courses, completely different value

Accreditation is negotiated per programme. An MSc Accounting and Finance at one university may exempt you from several ACCA Applied Skills papers; the same title elsewhere may exempt none. Students choose on ranking and discover the difference two years later, having paid for papers they could have been exempted from. Find the exemption schedule on the course page before you pay a deposit.

Should You Do ACCA Before or After the Master’s?

Direct answer

Most Nepali students do them sequentially, not simultaneously — a 12-month UK master’s is too intensive to sit professional papers alongside. The usual pattern is to take the exemptions the degree grants, then sit the remaining papers during the Graduate Route period while working.

Does Accounting Reach the Salary Threshold?

Graduate finance and audit roles commonly start at £26,000–£34,000 outside London, higher within it and higher again at the large firms. That is below the £41,700 Skilled Worker threshold at entry, but progression past it within two to four years is normal — particularly once professional exams are complete. Finance is also one of the more reliable sectors for sponsorship.

Accounting if you intend to qualify professionally through ACCA, CIMA or ICAN and want a regulated career path. Business analytics if you prefer commercial data work without professional exams. Both accept BBS and BCom — the choice is about career shape, not admissibility.

Yes, comparatively. Financial services is one of the more reliable sources of Skilled Worker sponsorship, which matters when the Graduate Route ends.
