The UK National Cyber Security Centre certifies specific master’s programmes against a defined standard. Certification is granted course by course, not university by university, and it is the clearest quality signal available in this subject.
Two programmes with near-identical names at different universities can differ sharply on this, and employers in the sector know the difference. Check the individual course page before accepting an offer.
Cyber Security or General Computer Science?
Choose cyber security if you already know you want security work and your degree covers networks, systems or programming. Choose computer science if you want breadth, are unsure of your specialism, or your background is weaker technically — general computing has more conversion routes for non-computing graduates.
Security programmes are less forgiving of a non-technical first degree because they assume networking and operating-systems knowledge from week one.
Certifications Alongside the Degree
Employers in this sector weigh certifications heavily alongside the degree. CompTIA Security+, CEH and the entry-level offensive security certifications are commonly taken during or shortly after the master’s. Entry Requirements by Nepali Qualification
UK universities publish requirements as “2:1 or equivalent”, which is not directly usable if you hold a Tribhuvan, Kathmandu, Pokhara or Purbanchal transcript. This table maps the common Nepali qualifications to what actually happens at application.
